Legg Mason Asset Management

 

Legg Mason is one of the world’s largest asset management companies with around US$868 billion assets under management. Since 2006 Kirkwoods has supported Legg Mason Australia with media and investor relations services.

 

Macquarie Property Investment Management 2005

 

Kirkwoods partners Macquarie Property Investment Management with PR & media relations services, to build and enhance its reputation as a leading manager of property investment vehicles in Australia, Asia and North America. Listed funds include Macquarie Office Trust, Macquarie CountryWide, Macquarie ProLogis, Macquarie DDR Trust and Macquarie Leisure Trust as well as a range of listed vehicles in Asia.

 

AMP Listed Property Trusts 1996 – 1998

$2 billion

 

Over a three year period, AMP Asset Management listed two property trusts on the Australian Stock Exchange – the AMP Shopping Centre Trust ($1 billion) and the AMP Office Trust ($500 million) – and acquired in a friendly takeover the assets of the former National Industrial Property Trust ($500 million). Kirkwoods provided PR and media relations services to AMP Asset Management for the IPOs and acquisition. The transactions raised in excess of $2 billion.

 

Ironbridge Capital

 

Since 2004, Kirkwoods has partnered with Ironbridge Capital to build its reputation as a dynamic private equity investor with key media and the broader investment management community.

 

Ironbridge and Barbeques Galore Limited 2005

$100 million public-to-private transaction

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge Capital with PR and media relations services for the proposed de-listing of Barbeques Galore from the NASDAQ exchange, and restructuring and investment in the business.

 

Ironbridge Capital and Dexta 2004

$40 million management buyout

 

Ironbridge Capital, a leading independent equity firm, completed in 2004 the management buyout of Dexta Corporation, a specialist insurance underwriting agency with annual premium income approaching $100 million. Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge and Dexta with PR and media relations services to position this transaction with investors and the media.

 

Ironbridge Capital and CanWest MediaWorks 2007

NZ$727 million takeover

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge Capital, a leading Australasian private equity group, with PR & media relations services for the takeover of New Zealand media company, CanWest MediaWorks.

 

 

Ironbridge Capital and EnviroWaste 2007

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge Capital with PR & media relations services during the acquisition of EnviroWaste Services Ltd from Fulton Hogan Limited. EnviroWaste is a leading New Zealand based waste management firm offering waste collection, transfer station and landfill services.

 

Ironbridge Capital and iNova Pharmaceuticals 2006

US$349 million acquisition

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge Capital with PR and media relations services for the acquisition of the 3M pharmaceuticals business in Asia Pacific and Africa. The business has since been rebranded iNova Pharmaceuticals.

 

  

Ironbridge Capital and Australian Drilling Solutions 2008

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge and three drilling services business – Gorey and Cole, Sides and Nudrill, with PR and media relations services for the $50 million roll up and formation of Australian Drilling Solutions.

 

 

Ironbridge Capital and FleetPartners 2008

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge with PR and media relations for the acquisition of FleetPartners in 2008, a leading provider of vehicle fleet leasing and management services.

 

Ironbridge Capital and Repromed 2008

 

Kirkwoods supported Ironbridge with PR and media relations services for the $118 million acquisition of Repromed in 2008, an IVF business providing assisted reproductive technology services in Australia.

 

Project Shearwater 2003

$800 million

 

In 2003, AMP Henderson Global Investors and Macquarie Bank jointly undertook ‘Project Shearwater’, the $800 million restructuring of energy utility assets including the de-listing of United Energy Limited, as part of the exit from Australia of co-investor Acquila. Kirkwoods oversaw and executed the PR and media relations services on behalf of AMP Henderson Global Investors to support this complex transaction. The transaction culminated in the formation of the unlisted energy utility investment fund, Diversified Utilities and Energy Trusts (DUET) and the listing of a $400 million subtrust, POWERS.

 

 

Private Equity 1997 – 1999

$300 million

 

AMP Asset Management successfully raised and invested $300 million from 1997 through 1999, for its development capital funds. Kirkwoods provided PR and media relations services to support the fund raising and subsequent investments in eight medium-size companies.

 

United Energy 1995

$1.8 billion

 

Kirkwoods provided PR and media relations services to support the AMP Asset Management consortium acquisition of United Energy electricity distribution, and its subsequent listing on the Australian Stock Exchange.

 

Melbourne Airport, 1997

$1.3 billion

AMP Asset Management was one of the first investment houses to actively invest in infrastructure assets in Australia in the 1990s, with the advent of government privatisation programs. Kirkwoods provided PR and media relations services to support the AMP Asset Management consortium acquisition of Melbourne Airport in 1996 as part of the Australian Federal Government’s airports privatisation.

 

Lihir Gold 1995

$200 million

 

Kirkwoods provided corporate relations services to support the successful initial public offering and listing of Lihir Gold on the Australian Stock Exchange in 1995.

 

Barwon Investment Partners 2007

 

Barwon Investment Partners is a specialist alternative investment company with a particular focus on private equity and real estate, managing funds on behalf of institutional investment clients. Kirkwoods supports Barwon with PR & media relations services.

 

ARIA (Australian Reward Investment Alliance)

 

ARIA provides superannuation services and products to Australian Government employees and employers. Kirkwoods supports ARIA with PR & media relations services.

 

optionsXpress Australia

 

In 2005, Kirkwoods supported the launch of the optionsXpress Australia business with PR and media relations services. optionsXpress is a leading US-based online broker.

 

Finametrica 2004

 

In 2004, Kirkwoods supported Finametrica with PR and media relations services regarding the issue of ‘risk profiling’ for Australian investors, financial planners and dealer groups. Finametrica is a leading behavioural finance group in Australia.
